Dog owners have been warned to keep their pets away from mud after fears the disease, Alabama Rot, which kills dogs could be picked up from it.
The disease causes dogs to vomit and develop skin lesions and 80% of cases result in death. Vets have urged dog owners to wash their pets after walking in mud. Official advice from the Dogs Trust said: “Where possible, stick to dry paths and keep dogs out of muddy or wet areas. Wash off any mud after your walk and check for any lesions or wounds, if you spot any, go to your vet.”
Known as the dogs ‘Black Death’, the bad weather so far this year could make 2018 the worst year yet.
