A nine-year-old DJ from Hatherleigh is now taking bookings after performing at a number of events in the town.

Playing sets lasting between two and three hours, Jessica Lewis, or, DJ Jessie Lou as she likes to be known, has been spinning the decks for under a year after receiving the equipment as a Christmas present.

After playing a full set at the Hatherleigh Festival UV disco, Jessica has now been invited to play at next year’s Hatherleigh Carnival. She also went down a storm after being booked to play a 40th birthday party recently.

“She spent ages researching what music a forty year old would like,” said Donna, Jessica’s mother. “She would make lists of songs and check with us if they were suitable for a 40th birthday, even keeping a folder of songs to prepare for her set.”

Although the prospect of playing to large numbers can be daunting. “I do get a bit nervous in case it goes wrong,” said Jessica.

“But I do feel proud that I’m playing for people that are listening to me.” Jessica has taken a keen interest in DJ-ing from a young age. “She would always hang around the DJ if we went to a party, just standing and watching what they were doing” said mum, Donna.

Jess is planning to re-invest money from bookings into her equipment, hoping to buy a new set of speakers for her sets. If you’re interested in booking DJ Jessie-Lou, please visit her official Facebook page at:
