Torquay is preparing to host a major night of combat sports as the South West Fight Series makes its highly anticipated return to The Foundry on Saturday, April 25.

Now recognised as one of the fastest-growing combat sports promotions in the region, the South West Fight Series will deliver a packed evening of mixed martial arts, Muay Thai and kickboxing, showcasing the finest amateur and professional talent Devon has to offer.

Founded by professional MMA fighter and head coach at Fightworx Academy, Joshua Archer, the promotion was established to give local athletes a professional platform close to home, while also inspiring the next generation of martial artists across the South West.

Fighters will travel from across England, Wales and Scotland to compete, ranging from emerging amateurs to experienced competitors eager to make their mark in front of a passionate Devon crowd. Many of those taking part balance their training with full-time jobs, education and family commitments — a testament to the dedication and resilience within the UK combat sports community.

Archer said the event represents far more than just competition.

“Combat sports have grown massively in the South West over the last few years,” he said. “We have incredible talent here, but fighters often had to travel long distances for opportunities. This show provides a professional environment close to home and highlights the positive impact martial arts can have on people’s lives.”

The event is known for combining high-level competition with a strong community atmosphere, drawing together gyms from across the UK. Coaches, families and supporters help generate an electric environment that has consistently produced sell-out crowds and strong online engagement.

Beyond the bouts, organisers are keen to highlight the wider benefits of martial arts, including discipline, confidence, mental resilience and physical wellbeing — particularly for young people involved in local clubs.

“At our academy, we see firsthand how martial arts can change lives,” Archer added. “Many fighters begin as shy young people lacking confidence. Through training, they develop belief, structure and purpose. These events celebrate that journey as much as the fights themselves.”

Spectators can expect a full evening of fast-paced contests, featuring both striking and grappling, delivered under professional production standards, with fighters representing some of the leading gyms from across Devon and the wider UK.

South West Fight Series has rapidly established itself as a key fixture on the regional combat sports calendar, helping to position Devon as an emerging hub for martial arts talent.

Tickets are available now, and organisers are advising supporters to book early due to high demand. Updates, fight announcements and event information can be found on the South West Fight Series and Joshua Archer Instagram pages.
