Glebe House, an East Devon-based smallholding, guesthouse and restaurant, has been awarded a Green Star in the 2026 Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland and named in The Sunday Times’ 50 Best Places to Stay for 2026.

The dual accolades mark a significant milestone for the 15-acre property, located near Southleigh, which was relaunched in 2021 by co-owners Hugo and Olive Guest.

The Michelin Green Star, introduced to highlight establishments at the forefront of sustainable practices within the hospitality industry, was awarded to Glebe House for its commitment to low-impact gastronomy.

Inspectors noted the property’s farm-to-fork approach, where menus are dictated by seasonal ingredients grown or raised on-site. The kitchen, now led by head chef and business partner David Knapman, emphasises craft-led cooking, including the in-house production of charcuterie, ferments, and bread.

The business also operates a comprehensive on-site composting system to manage food waste.

“It’s a humbling moment,” said Mr Knapman, who joined the business as a partner in 2025. “Glebe has always stayed very true to what we do: a focus on great produce, seasonality and cooking food from scratch using artisan techniques.”

Alongside the Michelin recognition, Glebe House was featured in The Sunday Times’ 50 Best Places to Stay 2026. The guide highlighted the property as an "exceptional British escape," specifically praising its dining offering and the relaxed atmosphere of the rural retreat.

The property, situated in a former Georgian vicarage approximately three miles from the coast, has recently expanded its facilities. This includes the addition of two cedar-clad "Crow’s Nest" cabins and a wood-fired sauna overlooking the Coly Valley.

Launched in 2021, the venture was inspired by the Italian agriturismo model; farms that offer hospitality and dining.

The property currently features nine bedrooms, landscaped gardens, an outdoor swimming pool, and a dining room that serves both residents and local visitors.
