Essential repairs to Holne Bridge and Newbridge will bring round-the-clock and daytime closures, with motorists urged to plan ahead for diversions until 1 November

Two bridges at Holne near Ashburton will face temporary closures from this Saturday (24 October), while damage caused by vehicle strikes is repaired.

Holne Bridge, the older Grade II listed structure, is set to be closed around the clock until Sunday, 1 November.

Newbridge, however, will close daily between 8am and 5pm over the same period.

A Devon County Council spokesperson said: "Both bridges have been struck by vehicles in a number of separate incidents over recent weeks.

"The parapet of the old Holne Bridge has been displaced and the parapet and coping stones on Newbridge have sustained damage."

The work at the old bridge will include repairs to its parapet and the installation of protection measures on the eastern approach, according to the highway works notice.

Temporary traffic orders have been issued for Road Past Lent Hill House, Ashburton, and Newbridge Hill, Poundsgate, to allow the repairs to take place.

The signed diversion for both closures will use Newbridge Hill (B3357), Two Bridges, the B3212, A382, Drumbridges Roundabout, A30 and B3352, in both directions.

Drivers should allow extra time for their journeys while the restrictions are in place.

The works are scheduled to finish on Sunday, 1 November, although the council has said the programme is weather dependent.

Closures are planned to allow repairs to be completed as quickly as possible while limiting disruption to road users.
