The British Firework Championships, one of the South West’s biggest summer events, is set to return to Plymouth Hoe on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 August.
Sponsored for the second year by Associated British Ports (ABP), the event is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors, providing a significant boost to Devon’s visitor economy.
This year’s championships will feature six previous winners competing for the title of ‘Champion of Champions’.
Each night will include three ten-minute displays, starting at 9.30pm.

The Young People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Plymouth Citybus, will also return for a third year, giving care-experienced young people the chance to vote for their favourite display.
Sally Haydon, Cabinet Member for Events, said: “We are really grateful for the support ABP Ports are providing for this event in their role as lead sponsor of the British Firework Championships, and we are very much looking forward to the crowning of a ‘Champion of Champions’ on Plymouth Hoe this summer as part of what is sure to be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some spectacular fireworks with friends and family alike.”
Ashley Curnow, Divisional Port Manager for Wales and the Southwest at ABP, said: “We are proud to support the British Firework Championships as lead sponsor for the second consecutive year, with this landmark ‘Champion of Champions’ edition. As proud member of the Plymouth community, ABP is delighted to help bring this spectacular celebration to life on the Hoe and to help showcase what Britain’s Ocean City has to offer.”
The event will also feature live music, fairground rides, street performers, and a variety of food and drink stalls, starting from 2pm each day.
Visitors are advised to plan travel and check access information in advance due to the popularity of the event.
Last year’s winners were BBB Fireworks, with Celestial Firework Displays and Pyrotex Fireworks taking second and third place respectively.
Since its launch in 1997, the British Firework Championships has become a signature event for Plymouth and the UK firework industry, attracting visitors from across the globe.
