Production vehicles and film crews have been spotted at the former RAF Harrowbeer airfield as temporary road closures for television filming take place in Yelverton

Filming activity has been spotted in Yelverton this week, with production vehicles and equipment seen at the former RAF Harrowbeer airfield.

Devon County Council has confirmed temporary road closures in the area to allow filming for a television series.

A traffic notice issued by the council states that the restrictions affect the road from Whistley Down to Station Road and the road from Pound Lodge to Roborough Down.

The closures began on Monday, 19 October, and are due to run until Wednesday, 21 October, between 7am and 7pm.

The notice says the restrictions are necessary to enable “filming for TV series”.

A signed diversion has been put in place for affected roads.

Photographs taken by The Moorlander on Wednesday show large vehicles, production vans, filming equipment and a Police pick-up truck at the former airfield.

Could it be Beyond Paradise?

The Tavistock Times Gazette has reported that the BBC drama Beyond Paradise is filming in West Devon as production gets under way on its fifth series.

The RAF Harrowbeer Facebook page has also highlighted the activity, posting: “Seems Harrowbeer will feature in a forth-coming episode of 'Beyond Paradise'! Complete with stone circle!!”

However, the identity of the production has not yet been independently confirmed.

The Moorlander has contacted Red Planet Pictures, the production company behind Beyond Paradise, for comment.

Further details about the filming, including the scenes being shot at the airfield, have not been confirmed.

The former RAF Harrowbeer airfield, near Yelverton, is a historic site on the edge of Dartmoor.

Returning to West Devon

The filming is the latest in a series of visits by the production to the Tavistock area.

In November 2024, crews filmed at Cox Tor on Dartmoor while other scenes were shot in Tavistock.

The town has also hosted filming in previous series, including at Duke Street, Market Road and the Pannier Market.

Beyond Paradise, a spin-off from Death in Paradise, follows DI Humphrey Goodman and his colleagues in the fictional Devon town of Shipton Abbott.

Much of the programme is filmed in Cornwall, with locations across Devon also used.

The fifth series is expected to air in 2027.
