Temperate woodland with its understorey of lichens and mosses is one of the wonders of Dartmoor. A day of talks at Fingle Bridge Inn organised by the Dartmoor Society is set to take place on Friday, 17th November, with talks from some local experts looking to explore the themes of its formation, its management and its future, as well as looking at what makes a woodland ‘temperate’.
The event is set within the very trees and plants that are the subject of the day at the beautifully situated Fingle Bridge Inn. There will be a lively and stimulating programme and a buffet lunch to enjoy.
Speakers include Guy Shrubsole, author and environmentalist; Plantlife, an international conservation charity who have just been granted funding to carry out research on temperate woodland; Moor Trees, a local campaigning charity who want to create more woodland on Dartmoor and the Woodland Trust who manage and conserve large areas of woodland on Dartmoor in partnership with the National Trust.
The programme will run from 9.45am to 3.30pm and will include refreshments on arrival and a buffet lunch which is included in the ticket price. The bar at Fingle Bridge Inn will be open for drinks. Ticket price £21. The day is open to all.
