The Okes
Welcome from the new Club President
The new rugby season is almost upon us and Okehampton RFC are already looking forward to another campaign packed with drama, intrigue and mud, probably.
For new Okes Club President Jerry Ovens, it will be a season filled with great pride.
He said: “It was a great honour to be asked to be President for the coming season.
‘Firstly, a huge thank-you to Pete Goss for his incredible efforts during his time as President – indeed a hard act to follow.
‘I started playing for ORFC when we moved to Devon in 1985 and played until 2010, when I unfortunately had to stop. As a soon to be ex-dairy farmer, I am very much looking forward to the coming season and having more time to devote to the club.
‘We are very much a rugby family and currently have one daughter and four grandchildren playing in various teams. I am keen to continue the excellent family atmosphere that exists within the club.
‘The standard of rugby now being played is a huge credit to all those who are involved in the club and hopefully the First XV can consolidate the excellent progress made under the current coaching regime.”
Good luck to Jerry and everyone involved with the Okes. The rugby rollercoaster is all set to go.
