RHS Garden Rosemoor to host free horticulture career taster session

Ever wondered what it’s like to work in horticulture? Whether you’re a student exploring career options or considering a career change, a free horticulture career taster session at RHS Garden Rosemoor on Friday, 7 March could be the perfect opportunity to discover more about this thriving industry.

The event is part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) new national initiative, ‘New Shoots’, which aims to promote careers in horticulture and encourage more people, especially from diverse backgrounds, to enter the sector.

Horticulture is a fast-growing and dynamic sector that employs almost 570,000 people in the UK and contributes over £28 billion to the economy - twice the size of the motor industry. From landscape design and conservation to plant science and food production, horticulture plays a crucial role in tackling global challenges such as climate change, food security, and biodiversity loss.

Despite its economic importance, the industry faces an urgent need for fresh talent to support its continued growth. The RHS ‘New Shoots’ initiative aims to inspire the next generation of horticulturists by showcasing the diverse career opportunities available.

The RHS Garden Rosemoor Career Taster Session is open to anyone aged 16 and over and will provide an interactive introduction to the world of horticulture. The session includes:

  • A guided walk and talk through the stunning gardens at RHS Rosemoor

  • A hands-on horticultural activity to experience practical skills first-hand

  • Insight into career pathways within horticulture, from garden design and conservation to plant science and nursery management

The RHS has long been at the forefront of horticultural education, offering apprenticeships, training courses, and career support for those looking to enter the industry. The ‘New Shoots’ programme builds on the society’s commitment to making horticulture more accessible and inclusive, ensuring that the sector benefits from a skilled and diverse workforce.

This free event at RHS Garden Rosemoor is a fantastic opportunity to explore a rewarding and impactful career path.
