A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued for Devon this weekend, with the Met Office warning of potential disruption to transport and infrastructure.

The alert is in place from 9am to 6pm on Saturday 7 June and covers the entire county.

Forecasters say heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop throughout the day, which may bring hazardous conditions.

According to the Met Office, there is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and hail, which could lead to longer journey times by car and bus. Delays to train services are also possible.

There may be some short-term loss of power and other services, and the risk of lightning strikes could result in minor damage to buildings and structures.

People are being urged to plan ahead and take extra care when travelling.

The Met Office said it would continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as the weekend progresses.
