Fire service confirms blaze that caused major damage to Market Street store was not thought to be deliberate

The fire that broke out at the Co-op in Tavistock on Tuesday evening (June 10) is not thought to have been started deliberately, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.

Crews were called just before 7.10pm to the store on Market Street, where around 40 per cent of the ground floor was severely damaged. The rest of the building, including the first floor, sustained smoke damage.

Six fire engines and specialist appliances were used to bring the fire under control, with firefighters using breathing apparatus, jets and ventilation equipment.

A fire service spokesperson said the cause of the blaze was investigated the following day and is not believed to be suspicious
