Train services between Exeter St Davids and Okehampton have been suspended this morning (June 14) after a landslip blocked the railway between Crediton and Okehampton.

Great Western Railway (GWR) confirmed on their website that all lines are currently closed, with disruption expected to continue until at least 1pm today.

Network Rail engineers have been unable to access the site due to unsafe conditions caused by the ongoing poor weather.

GWR has issued advice for passengers affected by the closure.

Those travelling from Okehampton to Crediton should take a rail replacement service to Exeter St Davids, where they can catch a Barnstaple-bound train that stops at Crediton.

In the opposite direction, passengers travelling from Crediton to Okehampton should also go via Exeter St Davids to access replacement transport.

In addition, GWR has arranged for rail tickets to be accepted at no extra cost on Stagecoach bus routes 5A and 6A between Exeter St Davids and Okehampton.

The train operator has also requested further replacement transport, and will provide updates once those arrangements are confirmed.

Passengers are encouraged to check the National Rail Enquiries journey planner or speak to staff at stations for the latest travel information.

GWR also advised that some travellers may prefer to delay their journey until services return to normal later today.

The company has apologised for the disruption and assured customers that engineers will begin work to clear the line as soon as it is safe to do so.
