Inner Wheel donates to Museum of Dartmoor Life in tribute to founding member

The Museum of Dartmoor Life has received a heartfelt donation of £250 from the Okehampton Inner Wheel in memory of one of its original founders, Rose Young. The cheque was presented by Jean Fisher, President of the Inner Wheel, alongside long-time member Muriel Hutchings, during a sunny gathering at the museum.

Rose Young was a key figure in the Okehampton community, playing a vital role in the establishment of both the Okehampton branch of the Inner Wheel 60 years ago and the Museum of Dartmoor Life itself. The contribution commemorates her legacy and supports the ongoing work of the museum, which continues to preserve and share the rich heritage of Dartmoor and its surrounding area.

The donation was gratefully accepted by Debbie Pritchard, Chair of the Museum’s trustees and daughter of Rose Young, along with Kristy Turner, the Museum’s Manager and Curator. Volunteers and staff also gathered to show their appreciation for the generous gesture.

“We are thrilled to accept this cheque,” said Kristy Turner. “As a small charity-run museum, we are always in need of funds to keep going. We really appreciate the support we get from local organisations and it is always important to remember our founders, without whom there would be no Museum of Dartmoor Life.”

Founded in 1981, the Museum of Dartmoor Life is a local heritage centre that documents the social and agricultural history of Dartmoor through exhibitions, educational programs, and community involvement. It plays a vital role in preserving the unique cultural landscape of the area.

The Okehampton Inner Wheel, part of the global Inner Wheel organisation, continues to focus on friendship and service, and is closely affiliated with the Rotary Club. The group is currently seeking new members to join their efforts in supporting the local community and charitable causes.
