The Dartmoor Pony Society is holding its Fourth International Convention from 8th–14th August 2025 across various Dartmoor and Devon locations and marking the Society’s Centenary, celebrating 100 years of dedication to preserving and promoting the pure-bred Dartmoor Pony.
Open to both members and non-members, the convention will welcome UK and international delegates for a week of expert talks, stud visits, moorland tours, and the flagship Dartmoor Pony Breed Show. The week’s programme honours the breed’s rich heritage and showcases its modern relevance in conservation and equestrian life.

Friday 8th August: The week begins with a welcome reception at Lady Willingdon Field, Whiddon Down, featuring music, a hog roast and refreshments.
Saturday 9th August – Study Day: A day of practical learning includes a live demonstration by top producer Craig Elenor, and a judging and ringcraft session led by international judge Jerome Harforth.
Sunday 10th August – Championship Breed Show: Held at Lady Willingdon Field, this showcase event features a range of classes, a Pimm’s reception, and optional lunch and cream tea. Free entry for all.
Monday 11th August: A guided walk on Dartmoor starting at Roundhill Newtake explores the DPS Moorland Scheme, which is run with the Duchy of Cornwall. In the afternoon, attendees visit the historic Shilstone Rocks Stud with Alona Stratton.
Tuesday 12th August – Seminar Day: Hosted in the medieval Great Hall at Dartington Hall, the day features talks by Tom Blunt (Senior Geneticist, Rare Breeds Survival Trust), renowned equestrian vet Sarah Stoneham and author Tracey Elliot-Reep, alongside international and UK stud presentations. Includes a tour of the Dartington estate.
Wednesday 13th August – Stud Visits: The day includes behind-the-scenes tours of two leading studs - Moortown and Blackertor - offering insight into long-standing breeding programmes and the ponies in their natural environments.
Thursday 14th August – Okehampton Show & Farewell Dinner: The week concludes at the Okehampton Show, where Dartmoor ponies will star in a main ring parade. The final event is a Farewell Dinner at the Fingle Bridge Inn, set by the River Teign.
