Work to upgrade part of the gas network in Ashburton has been completed, Wales & West Utilities has confirmed.
The project, which began in July, was described as “vital” to ensuring that gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area — helping to keep residents warm for decades to come.
Wales & West Utilities, which is responsible for maintaining and operating the gas pipeline network across Wales and the south west of England, carried out the work in collaboration with Devon County Council. Traffic management measures were in place throughout the project to minimise disruption.
Project manager Natalie Raphael of Wales & West Utilities thanked local residents for their patience during the essential works.
“We’d like to thank the local community for bearing with us whilst we completed this essential work.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner, or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
Wales & West Utilities delivers energy to more than 7.5 million people through a network of over 35,000 kilometres of underground pipes. The company does not sell gas, but is responsible for transporting it safely to homes and businesses across its service area.
Members of the public are reminded that if they smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, they should call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 immediately. Trained engineers are available 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies and keep people safe.
