The heat was on at the Lustleigh Show

Lustleigh Show was bathed in sunshine as temperatures soared on the hottest August Bank Holiday on record, and according to the Joint Show Secretary, they might have had the biggest show attendance ever.

In the blistering heat of midday the 10K race started with great enthusiasm. The race course winds up hilly lanes and through beautiful woodlands and along the River Bovey, testing the large field of runners. Most managed to set a good pace and were cheered home to the packed show field. Jack Stamp the first man to cross the finishing line in 39:47 and the first woman home was Chloe Olford in 45:23.

The main ring highlights were the falconry, heavy horses, the children’s races and the ever popular terrier racing.

The record numbers of visitors were treated to a host of displays of flowers, cakes, vegetables and jams. The Tipsy Cow bar was at full stretch and dealt with the hot and thirsty. Mel Stride, MP for Central Devon who lives nearby, was at the show with his family and said that he was pleased to support the show which showcases the best of local food and drink as well as homemade arts and crafts.
Mel told The Moorlander: “Events like these are important for so many reasons – they are opportunities for communities to come together and families to spend quality time together.”
