A road on Dartmoor is due to be closed for 10 days for repairs, with a diversion of up to 40 miles in place for traffic.
At the moment, there are temporary traffic lights in place at Great Tree Park on the A382 near Chagford due to a collapsed culvert (a structure allowing water to flow under the road). The temporary traffics light have been in place for a number of months while repairs have been taking place, but the contractor has now taken the decision that a full closure will be necessary. The closure is due to be in place for 10 days from Tuesday 19 to Friday 29 June.
The proposed diversion route will be along the A382, A30, A38 and then along the A382 again and vice versa. While it is unsure where the diversion will start from exactly, the estimated distance of the route from where the traffic lights are currently, is 38 miles. Devon County Council have said that the route length is necessary as traffic must be diverted along similarly classified roads.
The Council have also stated that from Friday 22 June at 5pm until Monday 25 June at 8am, two-way temporary traffic lights will be used to allow access to an event in
Moretonhampstead on Sunday 24 June.
