A full list of routes across Dartmoor and the surrounding areas in Devon set for surface dressing this year has been revealed by Devon County Council, and The Moorlander can now reveal which local roads are included.

The work forms part of the authority’s 2025 Surface Dressing Programme, which helps extend the lifespan of roads by sealing the surface and preventing deterioration.

The Moorlander understands that no specific dates have been confirmed for the individual schemes, but the works will take place at various points throughout the 2025/26 financial year.

The following Dartmoor and surrounding area routes have been earmarked:

  • Road from Hooks Bridge Cross to Hooks Cross, Sigford

  • Road from Church Hill Cottages to Ashcombe Cross, Ashcombe

  • Foxhole Hill, Christow

  • Torr to Watercombe Water Treatment Works, Cornwood

  • Drybridge Cross to Dean Cross, South Brent

  • Tick Lane, Doddiscombsleigh

  • Road from Farrants Hill to Perridge Cross, Longdown

  • Ermington Road, Ivybridge

  • Godwell Lane, Ivybridge

  • Exeter Road, Moretonhampstead

  • Road from Ten Oaks Farm to Ebberly Cross, Roborough

  • Beatland Corner to Lee Moor, Wotter

  • Lane past Portworthy, Lee Moor

  • Exeter Road, South Brent

  • Road from Loughtor Mill to Bottle Hill, Plympton

  • Church Cross to Wash Cross, Landscove, Ashburton

  • Memory Cross to Portbridge Cottage, Ashburton

Devon has the largest road network of any local authority in the country, more than 8,000 miles in total, equivalent to a third of the Earth’s circumference.

Due to limited resources, the council says its maintenance strategy focuses on A and B roads, which carry around 80 per cent of the county’s traffic.

Surface dressing is used as a preventative measure to keep roads in good condition for longer, helping avoid more costly repairs down the line.

Last year, nearly 59,000 potholes were repaired across Devon, and a similar figure is expected this year.

Drivers are advised to check the council’s online roadworks map for updates and plan ahead as temporary disruption is likely during the course of the works.
