Hit-and-run after head-on collision in Okehampton leaves driver in custody

Officers are asking for witnesses and footage after a BMW and Ford Fiesta collided on New Road

Police are appealing for witnesses after a head-on collision in Okehampton.

The crash happened on New Road at around 4pm on Wednesday 17 September and involved a blue BMW and a red Ford Fiesta.

The driver of the Ford left the scene immediately after the collision. 

Officers say they are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this person or who has relevant footage.

The BMW driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police confirmed that a man in his 30s from the Okehampton area has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified. 

He remains in custody.

Officers are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who:

  • witnessed the collision, or events leading up to it
  • saw the driver leaving the red Ford Fiesta
  • has dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the area at the time
