Devon County Council leader Julian Brazil has issued a statement condemning the attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester.
The incident, which took place today, (October 2) on Yom Kippur, one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar, has sent shockwaves across the country.
Police have since declared the attack on a synagogue in Manchester a terrorist incident.

Councillor Brazil said he was “deeply shocked and saddened” by the violence and extended sympathy “on behalf of our communities here in Devon” to all those affected.
He described the attack as a “cowardly act of violence” and stressed the importance of unity in the face of hatred.
Cllr Brazil said the attack had “reverberated far beyond Manchester” and was a reminder of the importance of “standing together against hatred in all its forms.”
He added that Devon is home to people of many faiths and backgrounds and that the county is united in condemnation of the attack.
The Cllr also commended the emergency services for their swift and courageous response, emphasising that “hate has no place in our society.”
Councillor Brazil concluded by reaffirming a commitment to “fostering safe, inclusive, and respectful communities everywhere” and called for continued work towards a future built on understanding, compassion, and peace.
