Okehampton drivers warned of upcoming Edwardian evening road closures

Drivers are being advised of road closures and parking restrictions in Okehampton next month for the town’s annual Edwardian Evening.

Devon County Council has confirmed that Fore Street, between George Street and Mill Road, will be closed to through traffic and subject to no parking between 4pm and 11pm on Thursday 4 December 2025.

The restriction is to allow for the safe running of the Okehampton Edwardian Evening, which draws large crowds to the town centre for festive activities and late-night shopping.

According to the official notice, the closure could remain in place for up to three days if required, though it is expected to finish on the same evening.

An alternative signed route for vehicles will be available via Mill Road and George Street, as shown on a diversion map issued by Devon County Council.

The event area and diversion will be clearly marked, and motorists are being reminded to move vehicles from Fore Street in advance of the parking suspension period to avoid disruption.

The notice will be issued on 27 November 2025 by Devon County Council’s Director of Climate Change, Environment and Transport, Meg Booth, on behalf of the Okehampton Business Improvement District (BID).
