Great Western Railway (GWR) has confirmed that the line between Exeter St Davids and Okehampton is blocked due to severe weather.
The disruption comes after Storm Goretti hit the UK yesterday (8 January), bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and snow. The storm caused widespread disruption across the GWR network, including the Okehampton Branchline.
Train services running to and from Exeter St Davids and Okehampton have been cancelled, with disruption expected to continue throughout Friday 9 January.
GWR has said that with the storm now passed, the railway is being inspected for damage.
A route-proving train, accompanied by specialist colleagues for tree removal, is being sent from Exeter St Davids to Okehampton to assess the line. This is not a passenger service and will run at a slower speed than normal, meaning it will take time to navigate the entire branchline.
Trains between Exeter and Okehampton, and Exeter and Barnstaple, are expected to resume from 12:00 on Friday. Passengers are advised to check before travelling.
