Residents in Buckfastleigh will be able to celebrate Valentine’s Day in style with a special film screening at the town’s new big screen.

The event will take place on Saturday 14 February, when the Cosy Cinema will show the romantic comedy Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (15).

The Cosy Cinema is a Buckfastleigh Town Council project, funded through a successful government grant aimed at increasing footfall in town centres.

The cinema opened in December and is run with the support of local volunteers.

Clair Knowling, Buckfastleigh Town Hall manager, said the venue had recently been upgraded.

“We now have a state-of-the-art big screen projector together with new seating, furniture and a licensed bar area, which bring a touch of Hollywood glamour to the town.”

The Valentine’s Day screening will be linked with pre-show dining options at two Buckfastleigh businesses.

Steven Burch, who coordinates the Cosy Cinema volunteer team, said: “For Valentine’s Day the cinema will be showing the romantic comedy Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, but to make it even more special we will also be working with two businesses in the town, The Globe Inn and The Doe, who will be offering pre-show meals.”

The Doe and The Globe Inn are both located a short walk from the cinema, however meals must be booked directly with each venue.

Fabio, from The Doe, said the business was pleased to be involved. “The team at The Doe are delighted to be collaborating with the new Cosy Cinema in Buckfastleigh this Valentine’s Day,” he said.

A cinema volunteer said the event was intended to appeal to a wide audience.

“It isn’t just for couples,” they said. “It’s a sharp and funny film and is open to lovers, friends or anyone who wants a laugh.”

Further details and ticket information are available via the Cosy Cinema Buckfastleigh Facebook page.
