Princetown 10k community run raises thousands for Fire Fighters Charity

Princetown Fire Station hosted the Dartmoor 10k run which raised more than £4,000 for The Fire Fighters Charity, and attracted nearly 200 runners from across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset
A charity 10k run organised by Princetown Fire Station has raised more than £4,000 for The Fire Fighters Charity, with nearly 200 people taking part in the Dartmoor event.
The race began shortly after 6pm on Friday 29 May at Station Road in Princetown and attracted runners from across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.
The event was organised in support of The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides support to members of the fire service family, both serving and retired, as well as their families.

Simon Wallace, a firefighter at Princetown Fire Station, told The Moorlander that the charity plays an important role in supporting the fire service community.
He said: “Members of our own team have directly benefited from the charity's support, and we have seen first-hand the fantastic work they do. It is truly a brilliant charity.”
The challenging off-road course was completed first by Adam Whittaker, who finished in a time of 33 minutes and 23 seconds.
Organisers said the event took place in “glorious sunshine” and featured additional activities including a barbecue, cake sale and live music from the Tavistock Ukulele Club.
Spectators and participants were also treated to a flypast from the Red Arrows during the evening.
The event created a strong community atmosphere, with organisers describing it as a growing annual fixture.
Mr Wallace said: “I was blown away by the support shown for the event. To have so many people sign up and complete the race was incredible.
“The atmosphere throughout the evening was outstanding and has helped make the event a special occasion for so many people.
“It has become a real family event that the community looks forward to each year.”
He added thanks to firefighters, their families, local businesses, sponsors and volunteers who helped support the event.
“From sponsorship and cake making to running the BBQ, the event simply would not be possible without their contribution. We are incredibly grateful to everyone involved.”
A post from Princetown Fire Station on social media confirmed that more than £4,000 was raised for The Fire Fighters Charity.
Residents described it as an enjoyable evening, with comments highlighting the atmosphere, turnout and community spirit.
One supporter said: “Really enjoyed this run. Very smoothly organised by a great bunch of firefighters.”
Runners ‘travelled from across Devon, Cornwall, and Somerset’ to take part, with many saying they would return next year.
Mr Wallace confirmed the run will return in 2027, with further details to be announced in due course.
