Bovey Tracey manager Ben Gerring
Pre-season is underway for Bovey Tracey and new manager Ben Gerring will be delighted with the performance of his Moorlanders.
Welcoming a strong Elburton Villa side to a windy South Devon College, Bovey soaked up some early pressure before taking control of the midfield areas, allowing their exciting forward line to wreak some havoc.
Stu Bowker was superb as the point of the Bovey attack, bamboozling Elburton with clever flicks and astute runs, although the opening goal came from a wide position, as Callum Noyce jinked inside before rifling a fabulous strike in off the underside of the crossbar.
The visitors were enduring a torrid test against the pace of Bovey’s attack and number two duly arrived when a short corner from Noyce found youngster Fin Herbert, who cleverly nutmegged his marker before a drilled low cross was deflected into the net off a Villa head.
The Moorlanders continued to control proceedings after the break and notched a third when a delightful delivery was headed back across goal and into the bottom corner by Levi Landricombe, sealing a 3-1 victory.
Okehampton Argyle’s opening pre-season friendly at St Day in Cornwall was sadly cancelled but the Okes will be in action on July 12, when they travel to Millbrook, quickly followed by a trip to Western League Saltash United. Launceston away on July 19 and Elburton away on July 23 completes the pre-season programme.
Newton Abbot Spurs opened their summer schedule with a tough game at home to Tiverton Town, who ply their trade three leagues higher than the Spurs. Newton enjoyed the ideal start, scoring inside two minutes but Tivvy levelled before the break and turned on the style in the second period to run out 5-1 winners.
