Newton Abbot Racecourse presents its latest meeting on Tuesday afternoon, complete with seven races; four over hurdles, two steeplechases and a bumper.

Read on for a full preview of and tips for the Newton Abbot card, courtesy of Boyle Sports, who provide all the latest horse racing odds.

Kicking off the action is a juvenile hurdle run over two miles and a furlong (1.58). Yellow Card and Pistrucci are both first-time converts to the National Hunt code, having both begun their careers on the Flat, with the former being the most successful in that sphere. This looks a stiff contest, though, with Lord, Mancero and Manyana Blue all having won over hurdles already this year. The remaining runner, Genbu, also looks a strong player having placed on both of his starts in juvenile hurdles for Emma Lavelle. Lord is probably the best quality among them, though.

Next is a novices’ hurdle over the same trip (2.28). Meridian Way, who showed little in four starts on the Flat, is tried over obstacles for the first time today, while the useful pair of Jack Hyde and Jaminska return for the new season today having won races last term. Olly Murphy’s mare Nana Noodleman might be one to keep an eye on as regards the markets, as she won a bumper in June but was soundly beaten first time over hurdles the following month. If in better form today, she might be capable of a big run. Jack Hyde, though, ought to be the best in class.

Race three is a conditional jockeys’ handicap chase over two miles and five furlongs (2.58). We have only four runners here, with a great disparity between the top and bottom ends of the handicap; Imperial Measure and Master Mikey Dee each carry over a stone less than Just A Memory and La Quarite. Imperial Measure should appreciate the softer ground on offer today and could be our winner, given three pounds by rider Ellis Collier.

Following is a three and a quarter mile handicap hurdle (3.28). Christian Williams’ Faded Fantasy seeks a hat-trick here, having won over course and distance last time out, as does Puddlesinthepark, who won his first two starts of the season at Ffos Las and Cartmel. Given a handy 10 pounds by his rider, he looks the most likely to oblige again, particularly given the soft ground he loves.

The fifth race is a handicap hurdle run over two miles and a furlong (3.58). This is another small field of five runners, but is a tight contest nonetheless. Jamie Snowden’s consistently good Hope Rising was last seen winning over course and distance and, up in class today, should be capable of winning this in theory, but might be disadvantaged by the soft ground. Jennie Candlish’s It’s All About You might be our winner here, fit from a Flat campaign and very capable over obstacles and on a softer surface.

Our penultimate race is an extended two-mile handicap chase with four runners (4.30). Wind surgery before his last start appeared to have been helpful for Jaitroplaclasse, who may do better again on the softer ground for Robbie Llewellyn, but top-weight Juggernaut should be outclassing his rivals here under Sam Twiston-Davies for Anthony Honeyball.

The finale is a bumper (5.00). Anabil Blue, Peaky Girl and Bacardi Blue are all newcomers, while Victors Spirit and Axel Bleue have both shown ability in the sphere by winning and placing. The latter should be the most likely to win again, despite a penalty, but Anabil Blue looks promising on paper too and shouldn’t be discounted if ready to win.
