Plymouth Argyle suffered late heartbreak as Jordan Clark’s stoppage-time penalty handed Luton Town a 2–1 victory and knocked the Greens out of the Vertu Trophy.
Luton struck first through wing-back Isaiah Jones, who finished at the back post after a pinpoint cross. Argyle responded strongly in the second half and drew level when 17-year-old substitute Tegan Finn capitalised on a defensive error to calmly slot home.
It was a special moment for Finn and all in the Home Park Academy system, as they watched one of their own continue his journey from the youth ranks to becoming one of the most exciting young players in the EFL.
Just as the Pilgrims pushed for a winner, Nahki Wells was fouled in the box by Mathias Ross, and Clark converted the resulting penalty to send the hosts through to the semi-finals.
Despite a spirited performance and a late chance to equalise, Argyle were unable to force extra time and must now turn their attention back to Sky Bet League One, with a trip to Rotherham United on Saturday.
