Owen Cooper v Constantin Ursu: Plymouth boxer fights for British and Commonwealth titles

Constantin Ursu secured the WBO European title in his last bout and now aims for the British and Commonwealth straps.

Plymouth's Constantin Ursu faces Owen Cooper for the vacant British and Commonwealth welterweight titles in Derby on Saturday night.

The 25-year-old, who was born in Moldova, puts his unbeaten 14-0 professional record on the line at the Vaillant Live arena.

Ursu secured the WBO European welterweight title in his last outing, defeating Ryan Amos on points. He is now bidding to become the first Plymouth-based fighter to hold the British, Commonwealth, and European titles simultaneously since Scott Dann in 2006.

His opponent, Worcester's Owen Cooper (11-1), enters the bout following a career-best points victory over Chris Kongo. Cooper is a former English and Midlands Area champion and will be fighting in front of a home-midlands crowd.

Fight Details

The 12-round contest headlines a Queensberry Promotions card, which also features several domestic match-ups.

Ursu, managed by Johnny Clark, has won six of his 14 professional bouts by way of knockout. He rose to prominence earlier in 2025 with a seventh-round stoppage of the previously unbeaten Eithan James to claim the Commonwealth belt.

The British title was recently vacated by Conah Walker, leading the British Boxing Board of Control to sanction this bout between the two top-rated contenders.
