Tavistock residents invited to specialist tinnitus support meeting this week

A Tavistock tinnitus support group is inviting residents living with ringing, buzzing and other persistent sounds in their ears to attend a free meeting this week
People living with tinnitus in and around Tavistock will have the opportunity to meet others with the condition at a free support group meeting this week.
The Tavistock Tinnitus Support Group will meet at Tavistock Library on Wednesday, 4 November, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
Wednesday’s meeting follows an initial gathering in July and will be led by Jill Field, an experienced audiologist and tinnitus specialist who leads the Plymouth Tinnitus Support Group.
The session will give people living with tinnitus an opportunity to share their experiences, access information and advice, and discuss how the Tavistock group could develop in the future.
Tinnitus is commonly experienced as ringing, buzzing or other sounds in the ears or head when there is no external source.
It can affect everyday life, with some people experiencing anxiety, social isolation and difficulties with concentration or sleep.

An estimated one in seven people in the UK experiences tinnitus.
The South West has one of the highest regional prevalence rates in England, with an estimated 20.8 per cent of the population affected.
Organisers are also looking for volunteers to help arrange future meetings of the Tavistock group.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “Tinnitus Support Groups create spaces where people feel more confident, more informed and more connected,”
The event is free and open to anyone affected by tinnitus, although booking is required as places are limited. Tea and coffee will be provided.
