Plans for a new farm shop development, ancillary café and childrens soft play area on land north of the A30 have been put forward by Vivian Bennett to Drewsteignton Parish Council.

Mr Bennett lives in Spreyton and the land in question is on the Hittisleigh road from the junction with the old A30 at Whiddon Down. Over fifty members of the public attended the public meeting recently with no one speaking in support of the application. Mr Bennett, the applicant and his agent were invited to attend the meeting but both were unable to attend.

The area where the planning application has been made falls just outside the jurisdiction of Dartmoor National Park Authority so has been put forward to West Devon Borough Council planning department.

Vivian Bennett of VB Farms Retail Limited did attend an extensive site meeting on the 19th May with members of the parish council and it was noted by the parish council that the ‘farm shop’ was not attached to a farm, the sequential test missed and said it was a speculative development.

Drewsteignton Parish council voted one for the development, one neutral and six against. South Hams planning department has been inundated with letters of objection.
