The Okehampton 1st XV travelled to Weston-Super-Mare to visit Hornets RFC in the Tribute South West 1 league.

Hornets opened the scoring. Almost right from the kick off, the Okes were penalised for a dump tackle and Hornets kicked to the corner. Their pack gathered the ball from the resulting lineout and moved the ball quickly to score in the corner.

A few minutes later the Okes were on the attack and were awarded a penalty in front of the Hornet’s posts. They opted for the scrum and the strong Okes pack pushed the Hornets ack back to their line.

Okehampton’s live wire scrum half Joe Bruce collected the ball from the resulting maul and dived over to open Okehampton’s account.
Three more tries in quick succession gave the Okes a 7-28 lead at half-time.

Hornets came back strongly at the restart, but the Okes were awarded a kickable penalty from about 30 metres out and Friend took the 3 points on offer to take the score on to 7-31 on 42 minutes.

Hornets now started to fight back in earnest and battered the visitor’s defensive line for several minutes before claiming their second try wide out on the left to take the score to 12-31.

Following sustained pressure early in the second half, the Hornets went in for a third try under the posts. The conversion took the score to 19-34 on 55 Minutes.

After the restart, Okehampton were pinged for offside and Hornets kicked the penalty deep into the Okes territory. After more sustained pressure they took another converted try to take the score to a worrying 26-34, giving the Hornets a try bonus point.

On 68 minutes, Hornets again pressed forward from the restart but the Okes cleared their lines this time, and at last began to reassert themselves on the game. Two more tries later, the Okes finished the clear winners – scoring six tries in total for the day.
