Pheobe floats her boat

Local young rower, Phoebe Muir, has achieved her Crowdfunding goal and has been able to purchase a racing sculling boat that is the correct weight and size for her.
After winning the Junior British Rowing Championship Single Scull title in a borrowed boat in July Phoebe, supported by her parents, launched a Crowdfunding appeal to fund a boat to enable her to continue to compete on an equal footing with well resourced clubs. Donors included family and friends in London, Ireland and Denmark but the campaign also had really great local support in Chagford, where Phoebe lives.
Phoebe and her family particularly want to thank:
- Chagford Recreational Trust and the Chagford Young Person’s Development Fund who each contributed £350 to support a local young sportswoman to compete at national level. • Kym at Sally’s newsagent who encouraged customers from near and far to donate over £700 in a collecting tin.
- The Birdcage in Chagford who kindly held a fundraising tapas night raising over £670, and thank you to all who supported the event.
- The Chagford Show Committee and Visit Chagford who kindly allowed Phoebe to stage a “have a go” on a rowing machine in their marquee at the show, to raise awareness of the sport. Thank you to the “have a goers “, who provided great entertainment and raised £180 on the day. We know that two people have taken up rowing at Plymouth as a direct result of this!
- Finally thank you to The Moorlander for the coverage and everyone who donated on-line, in person or and so generously anonymously – you know who you are!
Phoebe will be training in the new boat throughout the winter and preparing for competitions and regattas in 2018.
