The Range ‘superstore’ in Plymouth will open next month, providing 80 new jobs for the city. The store will officially open at 9am on Friday, February 8th, with giveaways and competition prizes on offer for the first customers.

The completion of the store marks the 30th anniversary of The Range. The site will also double as the company’s new headquarters once completed.

The Range was founded by Plymouth entrepreneur Chris Dawson who started life as a market trader and opened his first store in 1989. Since then, the company has grown substantially and now has more than 160 stores across the UK and Ireland. Mr Dawson said: “This store is a very important one for the company given it is opening in our hometown during our 30th anniversary year.”

The new store will boast 70,000sq ft of retail space spread over two floors. In addition to a café the store will even carry the complete Iceland Foods range. The food will be supplied by Iceland, though staffed and operated by The Range. Mr Dawson said: “This alliance is so exciting. The Range’s massive non-food offering under the same roof as Iceland’s unique food offering will provide customers with a ‘one stop shop’ and access to over 80,000 different
products under one roof.

‘It holds a special place in my heart and will be named after my late mother, being called Elsie Margaret House, and will become the beating heart of The Range” said Mr Dawson.
He added: “It is really exciting to see the building work on the new store and headquarters progressing so well.

‘I’d like to thank the council for being so supportive in helping create new jobs and keeping the business prospects in the northern part of the city alive. The team have been working very hard to get the store ready for February 8th and we look forward to welcoming customers to celebrate the opening with us.”
