The Ministry of Transport have issued a new road warning sign – a red triangle warning with an image of a hedgehog in the middle will be placed along country roads to warn drivers that small animals like rabbits, squirrels, foxes and hedgehogs are likely to be on or crossing the road.
Transport Secretary Chris Grayling called on local authorities and animal welfare groups to identify accident and wildlife hotspots where the new signs should be located.
The Ministry of Transport already has signs that warn drivers of deer or livestock, and hope that these new signs will alert drivers to the presence of smaller creatures in the hope of reversing the decline of Britain’s wildlife.
