Which local project has most enhanced our communities?

Residents across the South West can now vote on which civil engineering project has had the most positive impact on their lives.

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West has shortlisted 10 iconic pieces of work in their People’s Choice Awards, covering a diverse range of civil engineering works, from coastal and flood defences, rail and road schemes to the supply of safe drinking water.

The winner will be announced at a glittering event in September, hosted by television personality and engineer Rob Bell, along with the winners of 10 other project categories and the Apprentice and Graduate of the Year Awards.

People have until 5pm on 29th July, 2022, to cast a vote at www.ice.org.uk/sw/awards for one of these projects:

  1. Oceans Canal Bridge, Over Stroudwater Navigation Canal, Gloucestershire
  1. Severn Ham Watermains Replacement, Tewskesbury, Gloucestershire

Chair of the panel which made the shortlist, Sally Walters, Operations Director, Stantec said: “The shortlist demonstrates the creativity and commitment of civil engineers across the South West, who work tirelessly to improve the lives of local communities. The finalists represent an exciting range of schemes, highlighting the many different ways in which civil engineering benefits the region, its people, economy and environment.”

Miranda Housden, ICE South West Regional Director, said: “The People’s Choice Award is a great opportunity to promote civil engineering to the public and celebrate the hard work that civil engineers engage in to benefit the region’s communities. I’d encourage everyone to find out more about the outstanding projects on the shortlist and cast a vote for the scheme they think has had the greatest positive impact.”

The ICE South West Civil Engineering Awards are staged in association with Kier BAM.
