This year saw the 122nd Chagford Show take place just outside Chagford on Thursday, 15th August. The day dawned sunny and soon warmed up, with an occasional gentle sprinkling of light rain which was rather refreshing.
There appeared to be so much to see and do, it was a task in itself to decide what to do first. The livestock entries were a treat, with the largest number of sheep entered on record. From over 350 entrants, the WBW supreme champion sheep went to Steven Lay and Hannah Payne with
their Badger face Texel shearling ewe and reserve champion sheep was awarded to I G
Mortimore and Son’s Scotch Blackface old ram. Steven Ley and Hannah Payne topped off their
fantastic day by winning the Supreme cattle champion with the 2022 born British Charolais
Heifer.
With over 200 horse entries, it was WJ Jordan that took the Supreme Horse championship in
the Knight Frank main ring with 3year old Dartmoor Filly Moortown Hunting Lady handled by
Charlotte Jordan.
There were over 200 trade stands, vintage cars and tractors, the horticultural tent with some very impressive onions on show, the craft tent, food tent and displays made by local children.
Always enjoyed by all was the terrier racing, and the children were delighted to spot meerkats in the Pet's corner.
Bob Hogg and his lamb grand national and sheep dog display delighted the crowds and live music kept visitors entertained throughout the day when a bit of a breather was needed.
Organisers say they are already looking forward to Chagford Show 2025- Save the date of Thursday, 21st August.
