Much of North Devon is under a yellow weather warning for tomorrow (Friday, November 14) as the UK braces to greet Storm Claudia.

The 24 hour warning begins at 6am tomorrow and runs until Saturday, but the latest forecasts suggest heavy rain will sweep through North Devon tonight (Thursday) and continue through tomorrow.

The rain is expected to ease for a time in the morning but become heavier again from late morning until early evening.

The Met Office has said up to 50 millimetres of rain could fall, with up to 80mm in some areas.

The yellow warning for this region suggests some roads may become flooded and spray and surface water could lead to difficult driving conditions, potentially delaying or cancelling some public transport if roads are blocked.

There is also the potential for homes and businesses to be flooded, with people in flood-prone areas urged to take precautions if needed.

The standard advice for drivers is to avoid driving through flood water if you are unsure how deep it is and to drive carefully according to the conditions, allowing extra time for journeys.

At this time, North Devon is not expected to receive the worst of Storm Claudia, unlike much of the Midlands and parts of Wales, where a more serious amber warning will be in force.
