Council offers free parking across Torridge to help local businesses

Torridge District Council is supporting Small Business Saturday with free parking in its car parks on November 29 and selected days in December for the festive season

Torridge District Council is supporting Small Business Saturday by providing free parking in its car parks across the district on Saturday, November 29 as well as some Saturdays in December.

Small Business Saturday is annual event which aims to highlight small business success and encourage people to ‘shop local’ and support local shops, restaurants and other businesses.

The council said to support shoppers and business owners and working with the local town councils, there will also be a number of free parking days throughout December as an incentive for people to shop locally and to enjoy festive community events.

In Bideford on Saturday December 6 and 13, there will be free parking from 10am at Bridge Street, The Quay, the Manor and Bridge Street car parks. In Great Torrington, Sydney House car park will be free all day on Saturday, December 6,13 and 20.

Councillor Ken James, leader of Torridge District Council, said: “Where we choose to spend our money matters and can end up making a real difference. 

“We hope the free parking days will support our communities to explore our high streets at a vital time for local businesses, allowing them to thrive and grow. 

“By opting to shop locally and use small businesses, we can all contribute towards a more vibrant and diverse economy that promotes not only a more sustainable lifestyle but contributes towards a community-focused economy.”
