St David’s Church in Exeter was packed with music and community spirit on Sunday (7 December) as more than 200 singers from Rock Choir East Devon came together for the group’s first-ever “Big Sing” fundraiser.
Members from the Broadclyst, Exeter, Exmouth and Honiton choirs filled the church with 14 well-known songs ranging from Erasure’s A Little Respect and Blondie’s Call Me to festive favourites like Merry Christmas Everyone and I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday.

But the event was about more than just performance.
A raffle, cakes, coffees and audience donations helped raise over £1,000 for Inclusive Exeter, a community interest company that supports ethnically diverse communities across the city.
Carey Camel, Rock Choir East Devon Leader, said the response from both singers and the audience was “incredibly heartening”.
“At the heart of it, the aims of Inclusive Exeter mirror our own, as Rock Choir is open to all,” she said.
“A huge thank you to all my choir members who came along, donated raffle prizes and supported what I hope will become an annual event. It was a really uplifting afternoon.”
Inclusive Exeter works with groups across the city to promote community cohesion, connection and representation.
The charity said the donation will help it continue expanding its support programmes in 2026.
Rock Choir East Devon will resume rehearsals the week beginning 13 January 2026, with spaces open to new members.
No auditions are required, and free taster sessions are available for anyone who wants to try singing in a group in the new year.
