Emergency crews were called to a fire at a derelict car garage in Torquay, where furniture was deliberately set alight.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident on Chatto Road in the St Marychurch area at about 3.34pm on 14 December.

Firefighters from Torquay used one hose reel jet to extinguish the flames before making the scene safe and leaving the area.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers did not attend at the time but the incident has since been reported to them.

A spokesperson told Torbay Weekly there is currently very little detail recorded, including what property had been damaged.

Police have confirmed the fire is being investigated as suspected arson.

Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious is being asked to contact police online or via 101, quoting crime reference number 50250319275.
