These were the Torbay Weekly stories our readers couldn’t get enough of in July 2025, as the Bay grabbed national headlines, welcomed record-breaking crowds and earned global acclaim.

July delivered national recognition for local hospitality as a Torbay bed and breakfast - described by Joanna Lumley as her favourite in the area - was crowned Best in Britain at the VisitEngland Awards.

Electric Bay also made serious noise this month, as more than 17,000 people packed Torre Abbey for the record-breaking festival headlined by Fatboy Slim, Bloc Party and Andy C. The three-day event is estimated to have brought more than £2 million into Torbay’s economy. With plans already under way for Electric Bay 2026, the festival looks firmly established as a summer highlight for the Bay.

Elsewhere, The Babbacombe Theatre earned international recognition, being named in the top 10 per cent of global attractions in Tripadvisor’s 2025 Travellers’ Choice Awards. The accolade highlights businesses that consistently deliver outstanding experiences, based on reviews and ratings from visitors over the past year.

This is part of our Torbay Weekly Rewind series, looking back at the key stories from each month over the past year. Missed a month? Explore our other monthly rewinds here, with more to come:
