A look back at Torbay’s biggest moments in September, from sport to community events across the Bay

Torbay Weekly Rewind: September's 2025 biggest moments

Torbay’s streets and pitches were buzzing in September, with thousands running for charity and Brixham AFC achieving a memorable Devon Bowl triumph.

September saw thousands take to the streets for the Torbay Half Marathon and 10K, as runners tackled the course against the backdrop of the English Riviera. More than 4,000 people took part, making it the event’s biggest year yet after 2024’s weather-forced cancellation. Torquay United figures were among those on the course, with the Yellow Army well represented throughout the day. With Rowcroft Hospice as official charity partner, the event once again combined sport, spectacle and serious fundraising.

The month also saw Brixham AFC make headlines with a historic victory over Torquay United in the Devon Bowl. The Fishermen, who have climbed from the South Devon Football League to the Southern League at Step 4, held their nerve in front of over 900 fans at Wall Park. Cole Harford’s decisive goal and Aaron Wellington’s winning penalty secured a famous win for Brixham, marking one of the club’s proudest achievements in recent years.

Torbay also hosted the only West Country stop of the national Baton of Hope 2025 relay, a suicide prevention initiative inspired by Tommy Spink, a young Torquay man who lost his life to mental health struggles. Around 100 local baton bearers, including members of Tommy’s World and Samaritans of South Devon, carried the baton through Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, raising awareness and funds for mental health.
