The year of 2025 has yielded both sides of the footballing coin for Brixham AFC.

After the joy of a historic promotion from the Western League in May, the Fishermen have been forced to adjust abruptly to the harsh realities of playing at Step 4 in the pyramid.

Southern League football includes long trips to Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and the depths of Cornwall, and every opponent at this level is packed with talented, athletic and powerful players.

The Fishermen ended 2025 with a 1-0 defeat at relegation rivals Willand Rovers, a result that leaves them second from bottom and six points away from safety.

However, there is hope for 2026 at Wall Park, as evidenced by the battling display at their Mid-Devon hosts. Brixham more than matched Willand in the opening 45 minutes and the power of centre-forward James Moxon was a constant thorn in the home side.

After the break, Brixham did need a couple of fine saves from Andy Gillard to maintain parity but were ultimately undone by a slick counter-attacking move.

The New Year begins with a massive game on Saturday, as bottom club Tavistock are the visitors to Wall Park.
