Torbay Weekly Rewind: How the year ended and what lies ahead

The year drew towards a close with eyes firmly on the future.

November brought a statement win for Torquay United Women, who powered into the Red Rock Electrical Women’s Premier Cup semi-finals with a dominant 6–0 victory over Plympton. It also capped a landmark season as the team entered a new era of affiliation with the main club ahead of 2025/26.

Hotel Indigo officially opened its doors on Torquay seafront in November, marking another major investment in the Bay’s hospitality sector. The boutique waterfront hotel was launched with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Fragrance Group chairman Koh Wee Meng, whose company has invested millions into Torbay in recent years.

December

Early December saw a major milestone for housing in the Bay as Brampton House opened its doors as Torbay Council’s first ‘Hotels to Homes’ scheme. Working with local contractor Armada Property (UK) Ltd, the former Brampton Court Hotel was transformed into 14 modern, energy-efficient apartments. Let at social rent, the homes will house NHS key workers across Torbay.

Later in the month, hundreds gathered at Torbay Hospital to form a “Ring of Hope”, showing public support for the local cardiac unit amid fears specialist services could be moved to Exeter. The demonstration, backed by campaigners, residents and MPs, underlined how strongly the community feels about keeping life-saving heart care in the Bay.
