An internationally respected blues and American roots musician is set to perform in Torquay next month as part of a live music event promoted by local independent organiser Fougou Music.
Brooks Williams will appear at the Livermead Cliff Hotel on Tuesday 10 February, with the show starting at 8pm.
Born in Statesboro, Georgia – the town immortalised by the blues standard Statesboro Blues – Williams began his career playing small bars and coffeehouses in New York and Boston. During those early years he shared stages with artists including Chris Smither, Rory Block, Shawn Colvin and Maria Muldaur.
Now regarded as one of the leading figures in contemporary acoustic blues, Williams has released 28 solo albums, most recently Lucky Star, which has received international airplay and critical acclaim. Critics have praised his blend of blues, folk and roots music, with Blues In Britain describing him as “setting new standards and a fresh direction for the blues”.
Williams tours extensively across Europe, North America and the UK, performing hundreds of shows each year. His career has taken him to major venues and festivals including Glastonbury, Newport Folk Festival, Fairport’s Cropredy Convention, Celtic Connections and Kerrville Folk Festival.
Ranked among the Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists, Williams is known for his fingerpicking and slide guitar work, as well as his distinctive voice. He has been nominated for Best Male Vocalist by UK roots publication Spiral Earth, and his music has featured on BBC Radio, NPR in the United States and international folk and blues charts.
In addition to performing, Williams is a respected guitar teacher whose workshops regularly sell out worldwide.
Tickets for the Torquay performance cost £16, with student and under-18 tickets priced at £10. Further information and booking details are available via fougoumusic.com.
