Storm Chandra finally did what no other midwinter weather has managed for three years – it forced a postponement at Torquay United’s Plainmoor ground.
Despite the efforts of groundstaff and helpers, who worked from the early morning and over the weekend, the decision to call off the promotion-chasing Gulls’ NL South match against Farnborough was taken just before Tuesday lunchtime.
The last time that the much-praised Plainmoor surface was deemed waterlogged was before an FA Trophy tie against Taunton Town in January 2023.
The game was eventually played three days later (Jan 17), with United winning 4-2.
Tuesday’s verdict – the early timing was made with their opponents and further forecast showers in mind – means that Torquay face three successive away games.
After last Saturday’s 2-1 win at Enfield Town, the Gulls (3rd) travel to leaders Hornchurch on Saturday and then to Dover Athletic for a rearranged fixture next Tuesday night.
