More than 1,400 runners took part in this year’s Exeter City Community Trust Half Marathon, making it the biggest event in the race’s history.
A total of 1,403 participants signed up across the two-day event, which returned to the paths alongside the River Exe at the weekend. Despite wet weather conditions, runners of all ages and abilities turned out in large numbers to complete the popular course.
The annual event has become a firm fixture in Exeter’s sporting calendar, attracting everyone from first-time runners to experienced athletes.
Organisers say the record turnout reflects the growing appeal of community running events in the city.
Many of those taking part used the half marathon to raise money for charities and causes close to them, generating thousands of pounds for local and national organisations.

Funds were also raised to support the work of Exeter City Community Trust, which delivers a wide range of health and wellbeing programmes across the city.
Profits from the event are reinvested directly into the Trust’s activities, helping to fund initiatives that encourage people of all ages to become more active and improve their physical and mental health.
Jamie Vittles, Chief Executive of Exeter City Community Trust, said the weekend had once again demonstrated the strong community spirit in Exeter.
“From first-time runners to experienced athletes, the atmosphere was fantastic,” he said.
“Events like this show the power of community, bringing people together to challenge themselves while also raising vital funds for charities.
“We couldn’t deliver events of this scale without our amazing staff and volunteers, and the incredible support from sponsors and local businesses.
“Their dedication helps to create such a fantastic experience for everyone involved, and it’s great to see the positive impact of the event on our community across what is such an inspiring weekend each year here in Exeter.”
The half marathon is one of several major running events organised by the Trust throughout the year, all aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles while supporting good causes.
This year’s event was backed by a range of local partners. Headline sponsor was Tozers LLP, with additional support from Ilec Group, Eagle One, Robson Financial, Exeter College, Exeter City Council, Children’s Hospice South West, Exeter Leukaemia Fund and Alright Mate CIC.
Attention now turns to the next events in the Trust’s running calendar. The Granite Way 10 and 20-mile races will take place on March 8 along the Granite Way path from Okehampton.
That will be followed by the Exeter Live Better Marathon and Community Five Mile on May 3, which are also expected to attract large numbers of participants.
Organisers say the continued success of the half marathon highlights the important role that community sport plays in Exeter, both in bringing people together and in supporting local charities and services.
