A former Exeter primary school pupil has set a new Guinness World Record after identifying the most country names by their international codes in just 60 seconds.

Yuktha, who previously attended Wynstream Primary School, achieved the record during a special event at Wonford Community Hall, where supporters, teachers and civic leaders gathered to witness the attempt.

The record-breaking challenge required her to match international country codes to their corresponding nations against the clock, a feat demanding both rapid recall and detailed geographical knowledge.

Among those present were the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Yuktha’s current headteacher and her former class teacher, Mr Coven, who watched as months of preparation culminated in the successful attempt.

The hall fell silent as the timer began, with codes displayed in quick succession. Yuktha responded confidently and at speed, ultimately setting a new benchmark recognised by Guinness World Records.

Her former school praised her determination and focus in the lead-up to the event, which involved extensive practice using flashcards and memorisation techniques to master both common and lesser-known country codes.

Elise Redman, Headteacher at Wynstream Primary School, part of Education South West, said: “This achievement is not just about numbers. It’s about celebrating the power of young minds and the incredible things they can accomplish with the right support and determination.”

Matthew Shanks, CEO of Education South West, added: “Yuktha’s achievement is extraordinary, it shows what can be accomplished when curiosity, hard work and determination come together.”

“At Education South West we are immensely proud of her, and we hope her success inspires other young people to aim high and pursue their passions.”

Education South West is a Devon-based trust comprising eight primary schools, four secondary schools, one all-through school and a university technical college.

The trust says it is committed to creating a culture that supports and challenges pupils while working collaboratively across its communities.

Yuktha’s record is expected to inspire other young people in Exeter and beyond to explore geography and international learning, and demonstrates how a local pupil has achieved global recognition.
