What a blooming lovely way to support Rowcroft

Rowcroft’s much-loved Open Gardens programme is back for 2026, inviting people across South Devon to step inside a variety of gardens in support of the hospice.

Running from April through to September, gardeners will open their gates and welcome visitors to enjoy their outdoor spaces, helping to raise vital funds for Rowcroft. 

To celebrate the launch of the programme, Rowcroft is inviting people for a guided tour of Ella’s Gardens in the grounds of the hospice on Sunday, April 26 at 2.30pm. Visitors will be taken on a tour of the grounds with spring in full bloom and learn about the history of the estate, while experiencing firsthand how the peaceful gardens offer comfort and calm to patients and their loved ones.

 Seasonal garden tours will also take place in summer and autumn. Donations are welcome to help support Rowcroft’s vital services.

Molly Billingsley, community and challenges fundraiser at Rowcroft Hospice said: “Rowcroft’s Open Gardens programme brings people together while making a meaningful difference to local end-of-life care. 

“It’s a lovely opportunity for people to enjoy some of South Devon’s most beautiful gardens, take time out, and support local families. 

“Every garden visit helps us continue to provide comfort, dignity and support to patients and their families when they need it most. 

“This year, we’re also inviting local artists and photographers to capture the beauty of the gardens throughout the season, celebrating the calm and inspiration they bring. We’re incredibly grateful to all the gardeners who are opening their gates, and to Devon Tree Services for kindly sponsoring this year’s Open Gardens programme.”

With a range of gardens taking part, each offers something unique. Highlights include Oldway Mansion Gardens, Babbacombe Model Village, Oldchard Village and Galmpton Village, along with many other hidden gems.

Georgina Grime who is helping to organise the Dittisham Village Open Gardens said: “We’re proud to support Rowcroft Hospice at various fundraising events throughout the year and will be opening our Village Walkabout this summer. 

“It is a really meaningful way for our community to come together and raise vital funds for the compassionate care Rowcroft provides to patients and families across South Devon. Visitors will be able to enjoy eight beautiful gardens around the village of Dittisham, relax with a cream tea served in a Rowcroft trustee’s garden (included in the £10 ticket price) and browse a well-stocked plant stall, all while supporting an incredibly important local cause.”

Money raised from the events will be used to fund the specialist care that Rowcroft provides each year to 2,500 patients and families living with life-limiting illnesses across South Devon.
